Angkor,Situated at 7 kilometres
of Siem Reap, Angkor's site extends over square 400 km. 287 temples
were counted in the region, the construction of which is spread
out by the 9th & 13 th century. The major part of the most
beautiful of them are luckily, little taken away some of the
others and were listed by the Conservation of Angkor in 2 very
easily accessible circuits in car. The Small circuit is 15 km
and the Big Circuit 34 km. The temples of the small circuit are
" visitables " in the day (at a run) but it's necessary
at least four days to see the main part of the region. In pages

ANGKOR
WAT

Angkor Wat, the most famous,
the most majestic temple of Angkor's site, tours of which are
the emblem of Cambodia. It's a temple Hindu dedicated to the
god Vishnu, whose construction was begun at the beginning of
the XII th century during the administration of king Suryavarman
II. Its construction lasted 37 years. His name means in Khmer
" the city pagoda ". The main tower of the central
temple represents the mountain " Meru " (or Kailash),
the centre of the universe for the Hindus (but also the Buddhists).
The temple is supposed to be invulnerable and During the war
which began in 1970, the inhabitants of Sieam Reap had taken
refuge inside the temple. |

A temple-mountain, a forest of 200 gigantic
faces in the mysterious glances looking in all the directions,
at enigmatic smiles, at beings of another world, in their smiling
serenity. This 3-storeyed temple and 43 m of height , stayed
for a long time an enigma. Built in 12th century by Jayavarman
VII, first floors are a pantheon dedicated to the gods Khmers
of the beginning of its construction, in a time of transition
between the Hinduism and the Buddhism. The superior floor is
dedicated to Buddha. Fabulous low reliefs of 1200m of length
and representing more than 11000 sculptured persons, very long
frescoes telling the fights and the naval battles between the
Khmers and the Chams, as well as the daily life. |
